Literature Text

For all its beauty, the night is always distant and cold. The moon will never wrap you in a warm hug, unlike her friendly sister the sun. The stars are far too busy shining their light to pay attention to an insignificant you, and yet, we see a moonlight, starry night as the ultimate romantic setting. I suppose the darkness shrouds you from the prying eyes of 'others'. But the darkness is not your friend. When you are without that someone, to hold you warm and close, the bitter touch of the moon sweeps in. She reminds you just how alone you are. The night is when you know the 'others' are out there, laughing, hugging, dancing, while you are alone. During the day you can pretend, mask your hurt within a smile that the sun will double with light. In the dark there is nowhere to hide, really. Once we get our eyes adjusted no corner is that much darker than any of the others. But what is worse, sitting alone at night, or sitting by yourself, surrounded with 'others'? Others who will steal away to their dark corners, and relish the darkness you so loathe. Free themselves while you try desperately to hide, to run, to do anything to keep them from seeing. The night will steal your mask away, and you will stand unveiled again, broken and miserable as you are.
Meh.
